Our Story
Established in 2020, Garter & Veil began its journey in a quiet cottage garden studio, born from designer Gemma Victoria’s long-held desire to create beautifully handcrafted bridal accessories. What started as a small creative endeavour soon grew into a celebrated artisan brand, specialising in bespoke headpieces, jewellery and couture veils for modern brides seeking detail, artistry and individuality.

Our work has since been featured in leading bridal publications, and our pieces are worn and cherished by brides across the UK and internationally — from Europe and the USA to Hong Kong and Australia. Each accessory is thoughtfully designed and meticulously crafted, with an emphasis on refined materials, traditional techniques and contemporary design.

Today, every Garter & Veil piece is made to order in our private Sussex studio — an intimate, dedicated atelier where craftsmanship takes precedence over volume, and where each design is shaped slowly and intentionally. We create with the belief that bridal accessories should be modern heirlooms: meaningful, beautifully made and treasured long after the wedding day.
Inside the Garter & Veil Atelier

Virtual Appointments Available
As our studio is a working creative space rather than a public boutique, we no longer offer in-person appointments. This quieter, more focused way of working allows us to devote our full attention to each piece, ensuring the time and detail required for true artisan craftsmanship.
For brides seeking personalised support, we offer Virtual Consultations — a relaxed, one-to-one styling session held via Zoom. These consultations are ideal for discussing your ideas, choosing pieces that complement your gown and hairstyle, or exploring bespoke design options.
Designed for You, Made to Order
Our collections are created in limited runs and refreshed regularly to ensure a thoughtful curation of modern, seasonal and timeless styles. As each design is handcrafted exclusively for the bride, we encourage you to select your pieces as soon as you feel ready, as availability may vary.
All designs can be viewed and purchased online at www.garterandveil.com, with international delivery available.

Designer & Founder: Gemma Victoria
A life shaped by craft, imagination and the art of making
My affinity for design began early — embellishing clothes with beads, sketching patterns for hours and nurturing a curiosity for texture, detail and storytelling. That path led me to study Textile Design at the Winchester School of Art under award-winning artist Michael Angove, where I honed my eye for craftsmanship, individuality and expressive design. Those formative years were filled with drawing trips to Paris, days spent in opulent haberdasheries, and late nights mixing dyes or exploring couture techniques, all of which shaped the way I create today.

After graduation, I worked alongside leading British designers across interiors, visual display and sourcing — experiences that deepened my appreciation for thoughtful design and meticulous making. But it wasn’t until I created a bespoke butterfly veil for my sister-in-law, after she struggled to find something truly unique, that I discovered my passion for bridal craftsmanship. That single piece, made by hand in my small South Downs studio, sparked the beginnings of Garter & Veil.

Today, Garter & Veil is rooted in that same spirit of imagination. Inspired by storytelling, unexpected details and a life-long love of Alice in Wonderland, my designs celebrate the unusual, the expressive and the beautifully crafted. Each piece is created slowly and intentionally in my private Sussex atelier — modern heirlooms made to be treasured long beyond the wedding day.

Nothing brings me more joy than hearing from brides who are searching for something meaningful, and it is a privilege to craft pieces that become part of their most memorable moments.
I can’t wait to hear your story and create something special for your day.

A Note of Thanks
Thank you for supporting a small British studio. Your choice helps preserve the tradition of artisan craftsmanship, and it is a true privilege to create pieces that become part of such meaningful moments in your life.
